Research: Increasing Cyber Crimes against Women in Assam

The State of Assam ranks third in India in cyber-crimes against women in 2019 as per the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report, released in October 2020.  With this, the State continues to be in this spot for past three years now, in 2017, 2018 and 2019.  This is but alarming considering many cases goes unreported due to ignorance, apathy, social stigma, lack of cyber education and literacy as well as weak or poor reporting and institutional mechanisms. The Council for Social and Digital Development (CSDD) is undertaking a gender specific study of this digital grey area in Assam on why, how and what this increasing cyber-crimes against women would mean and what social, institutional, law enforcing mechanisms needs a holistic approach in addressing this increasing challenge to women safety and security online in Assam State.
